Quantity Surveyor Support Services (QSSS) values the health, safety and welfare of all workers (including contractors, volunteers, customers and visitors) and is committed to ensuring you are safe from injury and risk while undertaking work activities.

The effectiveness of our Occupational Health & Safety policies and procedures depends greatly on your commitment and support.

Every employee, subcontractor or worker of Quantity Surveyor Support Services (QSSS) must take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that their conduct does not adversely affect the health and safety of others. We ask that you commit to:

  • Observing and complying with all health and safety standards, policies or obligations of the relevant State or Territory
  • Following safety signage, warnings or instructions provided by a Site owner or their management / representative
  • Ensuring that you are working safely, reporting any concerns immediately
  • Promoting a safe work culture within the workplace at all times

Our workforce (excluding proprietary limited, unit trusts, family trusts, sole traders or partnerships) are covered for Workers Compensation insurance. If you have any questions or concerns at all, please contact your QSSS Supervisor.

Workers Compensation

Normal practice and our expectation is that rehabilitation and your subsequent return to work will commence as soon as practical. Suitable duties which do not jeopardise your wellbeing will be provided where possible as part of this process. An appointment to see a doctor may be arranged for you, so please follow the workplace injury guidelines for your state.

All employees have a duty and responsibility to take care of their own health and safety and that of others in the workplace.

Workplace Accidents

If you are injured at work please report the incident, no matter how minor, to your Supervisor immediately. It is our legal obligation as your employer to register any injuries you sustain in the workplace. If you are injured at work:

  • Immediately report your injury to your Supervisor¬†and seek First Aid, if necessary.
  • Complete an Injury, Incident and Near Miss Report as soon as possible.
  • If you need to see a doctor, you must obtain a WorkCover Certificate of Capacity. Advise the staff at the medical centre to send the invoice to the Quantity Surveyor Support Services (QSSS) office.
  • If you need time off work as a result of your injury, you must complete a Workers Compensation Claim form for the relevant State/Territory.

  • All documentation must be completed in full, signed and received by our QSSS office before any WorkCover payments can be made.

Report an Injury, Incident or Hazard

  • There has been an incident in the workplace
  • You have identified an issue that may impact on your safety
  • You have identified an actual or potential hazard in the workplace

Alcohol & Drugs in the Workplace Policy

Quantity Surveyor Support Services (QSSS) is committed to providing a safe workplace for our employees, subcontractors, suppliers, customers and visitors. For this reason, it is our objective to maintain a work environment in which the safety and the optimum performance of employees is not adversely affected by the use of alcohol or other drugs.

Under all State and Territory Occupational Health and Safety Acts, Quantity Surveyor Support Services has an obligation to provide a safe working environment.

As such, all employees and subcontractors of QSSS must not during working hours:

  • consume alcohol or be under the influence of alcohol while working
  • use or possess illegal drugs at any time in any workplace
  • drive a vehicle, having consumed alcohol or suffering from the effects of illegal substances

and must at all times carry out their duties and responsibilities in a safe manner.

Employees or subcontractors who arrive at a QSSS workplace under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be considered unfit for work.

If a co-worker suspects another to be affected by drugs or alcohol, they must inform the National Operations Manager immediately. No employee will be allowed to work under the influence of drugs or alcohol at any time.

Employees undergoing prescribed medical treatment with a controlled substance that may affect the safe performance of their duties are required to report this to the National Operations Manager. All issues pertaining to these matters shall be kept strictly confidential.

Please note that QSSS reserves the right to introduce drug and alcohol testing for employees on a random or with cause basis.

Any breach of this policy will be viewed as serious misconduct and may initiate appropriate action including the termination of employment or subcontractor agreement.

Responsibility for implementation of this policy lies with the National Operations Manager. Our company is committed to ensuring that all employees are aware of the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and the potential dangers they impose in the workplace.
